How to Earn
Begin by signing up for AAdvantage eShopping ๐ using your AAdvantage account.
The AAdvantage eShopping portalย (powered by Cartera)ย has over 1,000 merchants. You earn miles which convert to Loyalty Points. For example, if you make a purchase for $299 (before tax & shipping) at Macy’s at 5 miles/dollar, you would earn 1,495 AAdvantage Miles and 1,495 Loyalty Points.
If you make that purchase with a co-branded American Airlines credit card, you will earn additional miles and Loyalty Points. For example, if you have the Aviator Red World Mastercard, you would earn 1 AAdvantage mile for every dollar.ย
With both, you would earn about 1,800 AAdvantage miles and 1,800 Loyalty Points total for the purchase. Remember, miles can be redeemed while Loyalty Points are for earning status.
If you make a purchase and the earnings rate goes up, you can generally cancel and place a new order. Be sure to carefully read the terms of each merchant.
Lastly, since AAdvantage eShopping uses affiliate-based tracking, you can use any card to pay.
Product Search
While you can find your favorite stores and brands on the AAdvantage eShopping portal, you can also search for products. For example, if you’re in the market for a new Lenovo laptop, you can search for Lenovo and click on Product Results to see other merchants who sell the product.
Best Practices
The AAdvantage eShopping portal has been known to be very sensitive to “last-touch” during shopping. This means it’s important to follow these best practices outlined in the FAQ to decrease the chances of issues.
How long does it take for points to post?
It will depend on the terms. Some post in a day, others in a week, or even after a 60-day period. With some merchants, you must wait until the order is picked up or delivered. You will have to give at least 10 days. If it doesnโt post within 10 days, you can submit a request for credit. Cartera will research the request and it may take 6-8 weeks to resolve (up to 6 months in extreme cases).
If your order automatically tracks, you will receive two e-mails from AAdvantage eShopping: “Your order has been tracked through AAdvantage eShopping” followed by “You’ve earned miles through AAdvantage eShopping.” The points will then post to your AAdvantage account in the next 24-48 hours.
