If you are starting from scratch, want to get a jump start or are coming from another airline, American Airlines offers a challenge to accelerate status. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with American Airlines’ Status Levels.

While details are not published, the status challenge can be requested by calling AAdvantage Customer Service at 800-433-7300.

These challenges come with a cost and will vary based on the status level you’ve requested. You can expect to pay around $300 for Gold, $500 for Platinum, $800 for Platinum Pro, or $1,200 for an Executive Platinum challenge (these are estimates).

If you have status with another airline (excluding Alaska), these fees are typically waived.

Once the challenge begins, you immediately begin with the status benefits, and you have 4 months to complete earning the required threshold for the status level (sample thresholds):

  • AAdvantage Gold: 13,000 Loyalty Points
  • AAdvantage Platinum: 25,000 Loyalty Points
  • AAdvantage Platinum Pro: 42,000 Loyalty Points
  • AAdvantage Executive Platinum: 67,000 Loyalty Points

After completing the initial status challenge, you will have a second threshold to meet to keep the status for an additional 4 months. This challenge repeats for another 4 months, giving you a full year of status. If you do not meet the full threshold requirement, you will be moved to a lower status (based on the reach threshold). Once you meet all 3 goals, you’ll qualify for status for the rest of the membership year.

You can track your status challenge in the AA app or on AA’s website under Promotions.

Lastly, you should only earn the necessary amount of Loyalty Points during each status period. Any additional earnings will not earn a higher status level or benefit the phase of the challenge you are in.

Terms & Conditions as of May 2026

  • This promotion is only open to select American Airlines AAdvantage® members.
    • This promotion may not be transferred or assigned. The number of available memberships is limited.
      Registration is required during the registration window.
  • If you participate in an Instant Status PassTM promotion by paying a fee, then once your payment is complete, your payment is final and non-refundable.
  • Your complimentary AAdvantage® status will be valid within 24 hours of registering.   It may take up to an additional 24 hours for your new benefits to apply to existing bookings.
  • Compliance with Loyalty Point activity requirements for this promotion will be determined based on the activity dates of your Loyalty Points. Loyalty Points accrued before registration do not count toward the requirements for this promotion.
  • Some postings may take up to 6-8 weeks to post.
  • Only flights that earn Loyalty Points will count towards Instant Status Pass™ qualification.
  • Please review the AAdvantage® terms and conditions for AAdvantage miles that do not count towards earning Loyalty Points.
  • Eligible purchases, defined as:
    • purchases, including those made by authorized users on your account, less credits, return and adjustments,
    • made with your AAdvantage® credit card(s) that post as base miles to your AAdvantage® account during the relevant measurement period will count toward your qualifying spend.
  • Where applicable, for Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ Mastercard® or other Citi® / AAdvantage® small business credit card cardmembers:
    • Loyalty Points earned by the primary credit cardmember will be posted to the primary credit cardmember’s AAdvantage® account and
    • Loyalty Points earned by an Authorized User will be posted to the Authorized User’s AAdvantage® account.
  • You must complete the applicable phase of this Instant Status PassTM promotion every 4 months to continue with this promotion and keep your complimentary AAdvantage® status for the remainder of this promotion.
    • Failing to complete any phase of this Instant Status PassTM promotion will result in the withdrawal of your complimentary AAdvantage® status provided by this promotion.
  • Once you complete all 3 phases of this Instant Status PassTM promotion by their respective deadlines, you will have successfully completed the Instant Status Pass. If you began the Instant Status PassTM promotion between
    • March 1 and October 31, you will receive complimentary AAdvantage® status for the remainder of the current membership year following the completion of the three phases.
    • November 1 and the last day of February, you will receive complimentary AAdvantage® status for the remainder of the current membership year plus the entirety of the next membership year following the completion of the three phases.
  • American Airlines may, at any time and without notice, change, stop or end this promotion in part or in full
  • You acknowledge that American Airlines reserves all rights in the AAdvantage® program, and that American Airlines may change or eliminate any benefit associated with AAdvantage® status at any time in its discretion.
  • Your participation in this promotion does not change this reservation of rights.
    Customers may not participate in an Instant Status PassTM promotion for the same or lower status that the status they currently hold .
  • If you participate in this Instant Status PassTM promotion, you may not participate in any other Instant Status PassTM promotion for a 24-month period following your registration for this promotion.
  • You must re-qualify for AAdvantage® status annually 
  • Loyalty Points are subject to the standard AAdvantage® program terms and conditions. Loyalty Point activity and earn is governed by the Loyalty Point guidelines that apply to the AAdvantage® program.
  • Your registration in this promotion constitutes your acceptance of these terms and conditions.
